Diamond bracelets are one of the most luxurious pieces of diamond jewellery. Like so many other items, the combination and size of the diamonds can be varied according to budget. Diamonds can be set in continuation along the bracelet as seen in diamond tennis bracelets, or alternatively they can be added intermittently or in groups. Certain styles have become iconic as showpieces for celebrities and diamond line bracelets have more commonly become termed tennis bracelets due to an incident during the US Open in 1987 when tennis champion Chris Evert's diamond bracelet dropped from her wrist. The match was halted until she was able to pick up the bracelet and since then, the name has been used to describe the style of bracelet with a continuous flow of diamonds.
At the time, it was the Chicago Tribune that described this as a “to-die-for” item amongst the female followers of the sport. Since then, diamond bracelets have been created for celebrities by some of the most prominent diamond houses in the world, such as much renowned luxury jewellers Harry Winston. They were responsible for the more recent Twilight diamond bracelet worn by Serena Williams, containing 242 fine white diamonds amounting to over 12 carats of diamond weight grouped along the bracelet. With the added security of a strong clasp, a repeat performance of 1987 was avoided, although who can deny the benefit of such exposure in the press that Chris Evert’s performance created.
Other modern examples of their bracelets include the Sunflower and Marquesa bracelet all designed to showcase an elaborate arrangement of very high quality diamonds. Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Halle Berry have been seen wearing such pieces with the latter Hollywood star being adorned by one example whilst attending the Academy Awards.
