But why has such a simple style of ring become so popular? The reason for this is simple, or should we say simplicity. The ring and setting are essentially a mechanism for displaying the diamond. By creating a very simple ring that securely  holds the diamond, the eye is drawn to the diamond and away from the metal surrounding it. The diamond makes up the majority of the cost of a solitaire ring, so it makes sense to focus attention on the diamond, rather than purely on the ring mount alone.

There are many styles available for the solitaire ring. The ring settings vary enormously from simple four claw settings, to six and eight claw settings. Bezel settings on the other hand provide a different look again, with the metal surrounding the diamond offering protection and enhancing the shape of the stone.
