Johnny Depp – 5 Carat Oval Diamond – Size and Cost?

5 Carat Oval Brilliant Cut Diamond

5-carat oval diamond gossip

Within the news this week, gossip has been circulating about a supposed 5-carat oval diamond engagement ring belonging to Amber Heard.

Johnny Depp’s fiancée gave onlookers glimpses of her enormous rock at a private charity event last Sunday. Zaven Ghanimian, a named celebrity jeweller has speculated that the 5 carat Oval cut diamond ring is likely to be worth in the region of a staggering £78,000 to $100,000.

We think this is probably very conservative for a good quality 5 carat oval diamond based on today’s prices.

It has also been suggested that Amber Heard was certain to have been involved in the decision making process when it came to choosing the ring. She was seen at the event with Depp, where he appeared on-stage with names like Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson at a show benefiting Servite.org, a non-profit charity.

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have been together since 2014, originally co-starring in The Rum Diary. One of Amber’s endearing qualities for Depp is the way she never goes-with-the-flow, choosing her own way of doing things. Most likely her own choice of the diamond ring too!

But just how big is a 5 carat oval diamond?

5 carat oval diamonds typically measure between 12 – 13 mm in length by around 9 – 10mm in width.

What about the cost of a 5 carat oval diamond

This depends largely on who is selling, where its being purchased and how much the seller is making on the piece. The diamond colour and clarity will also play an enormous part in the value. Based on a good diamond colour (G colour or above) and an eye-clean clarity (SI1 or above) it is unlikely that the cost will be below $150,000 for the ring. Possibly more depending on the diamond quality, and whether the ring itself has a ‘designer’ price-tag attached.
